Treatment of Fever Blister Initial Outbreak

Penciclovir–Penciclovir 1% cream is applied on the affected area every two hours for a duration of four days. If used within one hour of the initial herpes virus, the treatment will only last for about two days. Penciclovir was also noted to decrease the length of viral shedding and still effective even after the development of vesicles. Vesicles are small bubbles of liquid that are located within a particular cell.
Acyclovir–Recurrent fever blisters are treated by Acyclovir 5% cream. As an effective medication, frequent application will improve the healing period by half day. When oral acyclovir was given five times a day as treatment for gingivostomatitis in children, the healing period was reduced from ten days to four days with similar results in fever, viral shedding, drinking and eating difficulties. However, when a low dosage of acyclovir is used as fever blister cure or fever blister treatment, the duration of the outbreak will be shortened by about one day. Nevertheless, if used with high dosage during prodromal stage, the pain and duration will be lesser.
Famciclovir–Intake of 1,500 mg of famciclovir during the first sign of symptoms will shorten the herpes infection by about two days.
Valacyclovir–Taking 2 gm of valacyclovir twice a day during initial outbreak as fever blister cure or fever blister treatment will lessen the herpes virus infection by a little over a day.
The Use of Suppression Therapy
Regular intake of antiviral drugs on a daily basis as suppression therapy has no sanction from the FDA and may be considered a violation of their rules and regulations. Nevertheless, studies showed that if there are at least six recurrences in a year, the following medications can be taken as fever blister cure or fever blister treatment to benefit the patient, to wit; 400 mg of acyclovir twice a day, 250 mg of famciclovir twice a day and 500 mg of valacyclovir once a day.
